Fire Extinguisher Training
NZQA 3271 - Suppress fire with hand extinguishers and fixed hose reels - Level 2, 1 Credit
NZQA 4647 - Explain principles of fire science - Level 2, 1 Credit
Course overview:
This fire extinguisher course will provide you with an understanding of the different types of fire extinguishers and give you the practical skills to put out a fire using the correct equipment, whilst learning about new developments relating to effective fire suppression.
All fire extinguisher trainees are required to extinguish a live fire. We ensure your employees not only come away with life skills, but they will enjoy the experience as well.

Key Learning Objectives:
- The fire triangle fire and principles of fire suppression and the different classes of fire.
- How to identify fuel and potential fire hazards in the work place.
- Understand the range of flammability and terminology associated with fire science.
- Offers a strategy when dealing with a fire outbreak, how to select extinguishers and safe suppression techniques.
- Covers the risks associated with using a hand held extinguisher and possible adverse consequence.
- How to practically extinguish a fire using a portable extinguisher.
Fire Extinguisher Refresher Training
The criteria for refresher courses remain the same as previously, the learner must already hold the Unit Standards they are refreshing.
Refresher training is not a legal requirement; however, it is strongly recommended to ensure compliance with the Health & Safety Legislation and its industry "good practice" guidelines.
It is generally seen as good work practice that trainees refresh these unit standards every 2 years. Duration of this course is approximately 4 hours and will cover the unit Standards and a practical exercise to reinforce the trainee's knowledge on using Fire Extinguisher correctly.
