A and B Grade Quarry Managers training
ACT Safety are offering a full suite of extractive unit standards consisting of;
A Grade Quarry Manager
B Grade Quarry Manager
B Grade Tunnel Manager (coming soon)
Certificate of Competence for Quarry Managers
B Grade Quarry Managers
This is a requirement for quarries which employ 4 or less people.
In order to gain this certificate you will need to be able to demonstrate skills in the following areas.
- Water usage and maintenance at a quarry site
- Understand the protection of the environment
- Regulatory requirements for managing quarries
- Understand and review consent conditions
- Maintain quarry working surfaces
- Understand safety plans for benching operations
- Carry out an incident investigation
- Understand and minimise risks in the extractive operations.
ACT Safety Ltd. are working in conjunction with MITO Industry Training Organisation
Funding may be available to Individuals meeting certain criteria.
Pre-requisite; evidence of experience within the industry.
The programme is developed around 6x 2/3 day block courses, approximately 6 weeks apart, there is pre-work for each block course and the unit standard(s) is completed during the block course.
Trainees are supported outside the block course by experienced trainers.

There is a requirement under the gazetted notice relating to the Mining Administration Regulations and Certificate of Competence.
Quarry, Tunnel and Mine Managers and other key personally are required to achieve additional unit standards. (Refer to gazetted notice) to maintain their Certificate of Competence.
In order to gain this certificate you will need to be able to demonstrate some or all the skills in the following areas.
- Carry out an incident investigation
- Understand and minimise risks in the extractive operations
- Understand human factors.
- Understand the coordinated incident management system(CIMS)
- Demonstrate knowledge of explosive properties and storage

Funding may be available to Individuals meeting certain criteria.
Pre-requisite; Holder or working toward an A or B Grade qualification.
These courses are all 2 day block courses, there is pre-work for each course and the unit standard(s) is completed during the block course.
Trainees are supported outside the block course by experienced trainers.

In order to gain this certificate you will need to be able to demonstrate skills in the following areas.
- Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory requirements for managing quarries
- Knowledge of the geology of extractive sites.
- Carry out inspections and complete reports for an extractive operation.
- Design and manage stockpiles
- Demonstrate knowledge of explosive properties and storage.
- Select plant, demonstrate knowledge of crushing and screening operations.
- Understand human factors.
- Understand the coordinated incident management system(CIMS)
- Implementation of plans for extractive operations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of rehabilitation of an extractive site.

Funding may be available to Individuals meeting certain criteria.
Pre-requisite; Studying towards or completed B Grade qualification.
The programme is developed around 9 x 2/3 day block courses, approximately 6 weeks apart, there is pre-work for each block course and the unit standard(s) is completed during the block course.

The course covers how to prepare for the oral panel to gain a new Certificate of Competency made under the Health and Safety at Work (Mining Operations and Quarrying Operations) Regulations 2016.
Learning Objectives
- Personal presentation
- Understand the new legislative documents and how they can be used effectively
- Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a-A and B Grade Managers regarding legislative requirements
- Understand the key safety processes and procedures that make up / within a safety management system
- Emergency management what it entails, how it can be developed
- Legislative requirement of Emergency Procedures
- Understand principle hazards and principle hazard management plans
- Understand risk management and how it can be used in developing a safer workplace
- Legislative requirement on Risk Management
- Provide an effective response to an emergency scenario, preventing escalation and working within legislative requirements
- Understand worker health monitoring
- Duties to notify regulator
- Practical presentation skills

- HSW (Mining Operations and Quarrying Operations) Regulations 2016
- HSW (General Risk and Workplace Management) Regulations 2016

This training is required by Worksafe NZ for all B Grade and A Grade CoC holders.
