Key Learning Objectives:

  • Apply knowledge of risk management, hazard control, and rigging planning to slinging regular loads.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of truck loader crane equipment and attachments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the difference between regular loads and irregular loads.
  • Demonstrate crane industry communication methods.
  • Prepare and sling regular loads.
  • Safely direct a crane during crane operations.

Pre-Requisites

NZQA 30072 knowledge of slinging regular loads safely. Book NZQA 30072 here

Special Note

To complete this Unit Standard evidence is required of a minimum of 40 verified lifts (slinging and directing of load) with at least 6 variations of lifting operations (site, crane, loads, and communications methods). Pendant-controlled and cab-controlled overhead cranes cannot be used for this purpose.

Dogman Refresher Training

This refresher course will reinforce your working knowledge of crane operations that involve lifting varied regular loads and safely directing cranes during operations. Included are a series of practical exercises to reinforce your understanding of Dogman responsibilities and ensure you are up to date with the skills needed for carrying out required duties. The course also covers any relevant regulations and new developments in the crane industry.

Dogman Crane Refresher training is not a legal requirement; however, it is strongly recommended to ensure compliance with the Health & Safety Legislation and its industry "good practice" guidelines.

It is generally seen as good work practice that trainees refresh these unit standards every 3 years.  The duration of this course is 4 hours during the refresher course you will go over the unit Standards and a practical exercise to reinforce the trainee's knowledge of Operating a Dogman Crane correctly.  (The practical exercise can be replaced with our Workplace verifier process - This process is simple; a workplace verifier confirms the competency of the learner performing the tasks being refreshed by completing our Attestation form).
