Course overview:

The mental health training covers variety of issues which include and is not limited to:

  • Explaining what is mental health
  • Different types of mental illness and symptoms
  • Risk factors that contribute to mental illness in the workplace and at home.
  • How to manage and prevent mental health in the workplace (targeted at leaders and manager)
  • Mental health first Aid
  • Monitor and review for lessons learned and improving the system.

During a Mental Health Awareness workshop, you will learn:

  • What is meant by mental health and well-being?
  • What does the law require from the PCBU
  • What are the rights of employees?
  • Worksafe NZ’s Role towards mental health in the workplace
  • What is Stress, depression, anxiety, toxic environments, workplace bullying, psychosis and problematic substance use
  • How to recognise the common risk factors and warning signs (symptoms) of specific of mental health challenges or crises
  • The Five Ways to Wellbeing are: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give

Mental Health First Aid toolkit

The five-step action plan, ALGEE, to identify and help someone experiencing mental illness or substance use disorder safely and responsibly.

  • Approach, assess and assist any crisis.
  • Listen nonjudgmentally.
  • Give support and information.
  • Encourage professional help.
  • Encourage other supports.
