ACT Safety Ltd today announced the remarkable achievement by Rebecca Finlay the Health and Safety Advisor at Golden Bay Cement in Whangarei. Rebecca started her journey with ACT Safety in 2020, with the huge challenge of obtaining both her A – B Surface Management Certificates within a year.
With a very diverse background, Rebecca started her employment primarily in government agencies, and joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) in 1997 where she served for 3 years. After the NZAF she worked as a dispatcher for the NZ Police.
She moved to Kauri Coast, Dargaville and worked for the Department of Conservation, this is where she found her passion for Health and Safety, dealing with emergency situations.
Rebecca re-trained and obtained her NEBOSH General Occupational Health and Safety Certificate 1, 2 and 3. In 2014, Rebecca started as Health and Safety Advisor for Golden Bay Cement – looking after the manufacturing plant, Portland Quarry and Wilsonville Quarry.
Although this was an exciting role and everything was new and different, this prompted Rebecca to enrol in both A and B Surface Management qualification, Rebecca wanted to be more confident in her position and wanted to provide better support for her manager and team at Golden Bay Cement. When asking Rebecca why doing both A and B Grade as ACT Safety had never had a student achieving both at the same time, it takes an enormous amount of dedication and hard work, her answer was simple:
“Why not there’s no time like the present to take on a challenge and I am very lucky and have the support at my workplace that allowed me the time to complete both quarry certificates”.
This milestone is a major move for ACT Safety Ltd on its mission to be the best Health and Safety Training provider in New Zealand.
