B Grade Quarry Manager Training

This is a requirement for quarries in New Zealand which employ 4 or less people. In order to gain this B Grade Quarry Manager Certificate you will need to complete these quarry units:

NZQA 21153: Demonstrating and appling knowledge of pump maintenance, dewatering, and settling ponds at an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Demonstrating knowledge of the water management system at an extractive site, and of the measurement of the quality and volume of water to be discharged from that site
  • Demonstrate knowledge maintaining drains, pump, and settling ponds in accordance with resource consent conditions and company procedures.

NZQA 21155: Demonstrating knowledge of the management and using of water at an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Consenting conditions and the water management system for an extractive site.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the maintenance and operation of systems relating to water use at an extractive site.

NZQA 7142: Demonstrating knowledge of the application of regulatory requirements to manage an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to explain:

  • The application of the Health and Safety at Work (HSW) Act 2015, the Resource Management Act 1991, the Crown Minerals Act 1991
  • The application of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act 1996, the HSW (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017, the Mines Rescue Act 2013
  • And any subsequent amendments or replacements relevant to management practices of an extractive site.

NZQA 8902: Preparing a safety inspection plan for extractive operations. People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare a
safety inspection plan for extractive operations.

NZQA 8905: Demonstrating knowledge of construction and maintenance of working surfaces at an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to, for an extractive site:

  • Evaluating existing features of working surfaces
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the layout of working surfaces
  • Describing methods for maintaining working surfaces.
  • Describing construction methods and equipment for working surfaces

NZQA 8909: Demonstrating knowledge of the maintenance of working surfaces at a surface extraction site. People credited with this unit standard are able to describe:

  • The procedure for maintaining safe access to surface extraction site working areas.
  • Maintaining of a surface extraction site floor and access track
  • The procedure for clearing oversized material from a surface
    extraction site working surface

NZQA 8922: Conducting safety checks before and after equipment use at an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to conduct safety checks before and after equipment usage at an extractive site.

NZQA 21154: Demonstrating and applying knowledge of procedures to minimise environmental impact at an extraction site. People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Assessing potential impact of a surface extraction site on the environment
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the process for seeking resource
    consent for a surface extraction site
  • Developing production operating procedures for a surface site
  • Reviewing and checking operational compliance with established procedures for a surface extraction site.

NZQA 21156: Demonstrating knowledge of planning and managing extraction to minimise environmental impacts. People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Explaining how a plan is prepared to minimise the environmental impacts of an extractive site
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the process for seeking resource consent for an extractive site and how to manage an extractive site to minimise environmental impacts
  • Evaluating programmes to minimise environmental impacts at an extractive site

Pre-requisite for B Grade Quarry Manager Training: Holder or working toward an A or B Grade Quarry Manager qualification.

These Certificate of Competence courses are all 2 day block courses, there is pre-work for each course and the unit standard(s) is completed during the block course.

Trainees are supported outside the block course by experienced trainers.

  • ACT Safety Ltd.  is working in conjunction with MITO Industry Training Organisation
  • Funding for the B Grade Quarry Manager Training may be available to Individuals meeting certain criteria.
  • Block courses are delivered throughout the country
