B Grade Quarry Manager Training

This is a requirement for quarries in New Zealand which employ 4 or less people. In order to gain this B Grade Quarry Manager Certificate you will need to complete these quarry units:

Unit 21153: Demonstrate and apply knowledge of dewatering, pump maintenance, and settling ponds at an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the water management system at an extractive site, and of the measurement of the volume and quality of water to be discharged from that site
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pump maintenance
  • Demonstrate knowledge of maintaining drains and settling ponds in accordance with resource consent conditions and company procedures.

Unit 21155: Demonstrate knowledge of the management and use of water at an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Consent conditions and the water management system for an extractive site.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the operation and maintenance of systems relating to water use at an extractive site.

Unit 7142: Demonstrate knowledge of the application of regulatory requirements to manage an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to explain:

  • The application of the Health and Safety at Work (HSW) Act 2015
  • The application of the Resource Management Act 1991
  • The application of the Crown Minerals Act 1991
  • The application of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act 1996
  • The HSW (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017
  • The application of the Mines Rescue Act 2013
  • And any subsequent amendments or replacements relevant to management practices of an extractive site.

Unit 8902: Prepare a safety inspection plan for extractive operations. People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare a
safety inspection plan for extractive operations.

Unit 8905: Demonstrate knowledge of construction and maintenance of working surfaces at an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to, for an extractive site:

  • Evaluate existing features of working surfaces
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the layout of working surfaces
  • Describe construction methods and equipment for working surfaces
  • Describe methods for maintaining working surfaces.

Unit 8909: Demonstrate knowledge of the maintenance of working surfaces at a surface extraction site. People credited with this unit standard are able to describe:

  • Maintenance of a surface extraction site floor and access track
  • The procedure for clearing oversized material from a surface
    extraction site working surface
  • The procedure for maintaining safe access to surface extraction site working areas.

Unit 8922: Conduct safety checks before and after equipment use at an extractive site. People credited with this unit standard are able to conduct safety checks before and after equipment usage at an extractive site.

Unit 21154: Demonstrate and apply knowledge of procedures to minimise environmental impact at an extraction site. People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Assess potential impact of a surface extraction site on the environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the process for seeking resource
    consent for a surface extraction site
  • Develop production operating procedures for a surface site
  • Check and review operational compliance with established procedures for a surface extraction site.

Unit 21156: Demonstrate knowledge of planning and managing extraction to minimise environmental impacts. People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Explain how a plan is prepared to minimise the environmental impacts of an extractive site
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the process for seeking resource consent for an extractive site
  • Evaluate programmes to minimise environmental impacts at an extractive site
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how to manage an extractive site to minimise environmental impacts.

Pre-requisite for B Grade Quarry Manager Training: Holder or working toward an A or B Grade Quarry Manager qualification.

These Certificate of Competence courses are all 2 day block courses, there is pre-work for each course and the unit standard(s) is completed during the block course.

Trainees are supported outside the block course by experienced trainers.

  • ACT Safety Ltd.  is working in conjunction with MITO Industry Training Organisation
  • Funding for the B Grade Quarry Manager Training may be available to Individuals meeting certain criteria.
  • Block courses are delivered throughout the country
