Understand the legal requirements, methodology and procedures to inspect height safety equipment. This course will give you the skills required to identify, inspect and maintain height safety equipment such as harness, lanyards, karabiners, slings, ascenders, decenders, rope, pulley wheels, back-up devices, helmet and ancillary equipment. Students need to have 3 months of work experience in the industry prior to doing the course.

Inspect Height Safety Equipment

NZQA 19359 - Identify, inspect and maintain height safety equipment - Level 3, 3 Credits

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Identify industrial rope access equipment.

  • Identify manufacturers maintenance instructions.

  • Identify manufacturers maintenance specifications.

  • Identify and reject damaged and/or worn equipment.

  • Record equipment inspections and maintenance procedures in a log book.

  • Record maintenance procedures in log book.

The criteria for refresher courses remain the same as previously, the learner must already hold the Unit Standards they are refreshing.  Working at Heights Refresher training is not a legal requirement; however, it is strongly recommended to ensure compliance with the Health & Safety Legislation and its industry "good practice" guidelines.

It is generally seen as good work practice to refresh these unit standards every 2 years.  Duration of this course is 4 hours and will cover the unit Standards and a practical exercise to reinforce the trainee's knowledge on working at heights correctly.  (The practical exercise can be replaced with our Workplace verifier process - This process is simple; a workplace verifier confirms the competency of the learner performing the tasks being refreshed by completing our Attestation form).
