New CoC’s holder requirements for mining and quarrying sectors.

New regulations prescribing competencies for the mining and quarrying sectors were passed in December 2013.

On 18th December 2014 WorkSafe NZ published new requirements for certain mining and quarrying (CoC’s). The requirements mean CoC holders will have to gain additional unit standards by 1st January 2016 in order for their certificates to be valid.

ACT Safety Ltd is accredited to offer these unit standards. We intend delivering the new units commencing in March 2015. The first of these units we will be carrying out is; US 16686 Carry out an Incident Investigation at an Extractive Site. Please contact us for details.

US 16686 Conduct an incident investigation (as per NZQA unit standard)

Duration: 16 hours

Purpose:   People credited with this unit standard are able to: explain the concepts of multiple causation and root-cause analysis; conduct a hypothetical incident investigation; and conduct an actual incident investigation report, and detail possible remedies.

US 26855 Human Factors (as per NZQA unit standard)

Duration: 16 hours

Purpose:   To enable trainees to display concepts and principles related to Human Factors; analyse workplace practices at an extractive site by examining the Human Factors involved that could have contributed to an incident; recommend controls that will reduce the likelihood of the recurrence of incidents resulting from Human Factors involved in the underlying workplace practice; and review the implementation of the recommended controls.

Learning Objectives:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of concepts and principles related to Human Factors
  • Analyse workplace practices at an extractive site by examining the Human Factors involved that could have contributed to an incident.
  • Recommend controls that will reduce the likelihood of the recurrence of incidents resulting from Human Factors involved in the underlying workplace practice.
  • Review the implementation of the recommended controls.

 

US 26856 Risk Management

Duration: 16 hours

Purpose: This unit standard covers the skills and knowledge required to carry out risk management processes at an extractive site.

People credited with this unit standard are able to: determine the risk management process to be carried out at an extractive site; identify hazards; assess risk; identify unacceptable risk and potential actions for risk control; decide on, and implement or facilitate risk control action; review the implementation of risk control action; and complete records and reports for risk management at an extractive site.

Learning Objectives:

  • Determine the risk management process to be carried out at an extractive site.
  • Identify hazards; are identified and confirmed by reference to site circumstances, history and/or precedence.
  • Assess risk; loss scenarios are identified in terms of hazards described as incidents, accidents or events.
  • Identify unacceptable risk; as per company procedure
  • Identify potential actions for risk control;
  • Decide on risk control action
  • Implement or facilitate risk control action
  • Review the implementation of risk control action
  • Complete records and reports for risk management on an extractive site
